Safety First on Bonfire Night

This past Saturday, November 5th, was the UK’s yearly bonfire night, better known as Guy Fawkes Night. A night that is strangely celebrating a failed gunpowder plot on the Houses of Parliament in 1605. It was a group plan to blow up the political building, with Robert Catesby being the mastermind behind the whole plot. Guy Fawkes was an explosives expert, which is why he was brought in.

Guy Fawkes is the face of this celebration because he was the one found guarding the gunpowder under the houses of parliament. He was sentenced to be hung, drawn, and quartered. But Guy Fawkes broke his neck while being hanged, so he avoided the other two sentences. When the news broke about the plot, the public started to light bonfires, which is where the tradition started and has continued for many years. Originally, effigies of the Pope were burned on top of the bonfire, but they were eventually replaced with Guy Fawkes.

As many of you can imagine, safety precautions need to be a high priority at these events, as there are many aspects that can go wrong.

EWFM Access Systems:

Although we don’t supply safety access systems for bonfire night, we do pride ourselves on keeping employees who work in factories and warehouses safe. Particularly when working at heights or with heavy objects. In our current range, we have six access systems, which are folding stairs and platforms, gantry stands, mobile step units, rollover pallet gates, and the swing arm pallet gate.

Folding stairs, platforms, and gantry stands are primarily intended for use when employees must work from a height, such as when loading and unloading a tanker. The folding stairs and gantry stands are fully customizable so that you can get the right fit for your company. Mobile step units are also used in warehouses and factories, but these will be found on the floor. These will be used when there is a limited amount of space above the ground and workers need to gain access to tanks and lorries.

Finally, our latest additions to the access system range are the rollover and swing-arm pallet gates. Both of these systems are used for loading and unloading vehicles while preventing workers from making any strenuous movements. The rollover version only uses half the space of the load when it is in its closed position. The swing-arm pallet gate uses a counterbalanced system with no springs.

Just like the importance of safety on bonfire night, safety for employees working in factories and warehouses is the highest priority, which is why we provide our range of access systems.
