Brewing up a storm

Brewing up a storm

Breweries are home to one of the UK’s favourite tipples, beer. In 2021, it said that over 4.6 billion litres of beer were sold. This is an increase of 13% on the previous year. For many years, EWFM has been supplying a variety of products to breweries up and down the UK and even abroad. Although the UK is known for its love of beer, it’s not actually the country where the most beer is consumed. According to the data, the UK comes 8th  with the likes of Brazil, Mexico, Germany, and Japan ahead of them. However, China consumes the most, with a total of 9.5 million gallons consumed in 2020.

Now we will be looking into the UK brewery market and also what EWFM can offer to keep the beer flowing.

The UK Brewery Market:

In 2021, the UK population spent around 7.8 billion British pounds on beer. Overall, the market size of craft beer products in the UK is said to be worth around £1.4 billion, which is a growth of 15.6% on figures in 2021. It will not come as a surprise to you after reading those figures that the number of breweries in the UK grew from 1,500 to 2,500 in 2022.

Due to the outbreak of COVID, many establishments that sold beer had to shut down, which led to a decline. But after coming out of lockdown, it seems that the market is slowly reaching and exceeding its pre-COVID figures.

UK breweries are also having to face new competition and new trends. As of late, there has been a demand for new and whacky flavoured beers. The classic breweries such as Heineken and Budweiser have stuck to what they know. But  new companies have entered the market, such as Brewdog. Well known for their array of different flavoured beers and IPA’s, the company from Scotland has been slowly making themselves a big player in the UK brewing industry.

Products suited to the brewing industry:

Drum Filling Heads

The Model AR® Drum Filling head is ideal for filling a variety of containers such as drums, IBC’s, totes, barrels, and casks. Despite the name suggesting that this is only used for filling. It can also be designed for drum emptying or both on request. The body of the product has one product port and one vapour port, which is also fitted with an Endress & Hauser tuning fork overfill level sensor which will signal for liquid shut-off. Overall, the design of the filling head offers a safe, reliable, and easy-to-use system to transfer numerous liquid products.

Engineered Delivery Nozzles

In our current range, we offer two types of engineered nozzle. A manual and an automatic version. The ZV® is our manual nozzle which can be operated with just one hand. It has a dead man’s device which increases safety when in use. When the operator releases the handle, the valve closes instantly, which ceases the flow. Our AZV® is our automatic version. This is similar to the pumps that you get at petrol stations. By pulling the lever, it will enter automatic mode. Once the desired level has been reached, the filling process will stop instantly.

Swivel Joints

Within our extensive range of swivel joints, we also offer food-grade variants. The food-grade swivel joints have FDA approved materials and seals. Ultimately, this means that the material of the swivel is perfectly safe to come in direct contact with food products. Therefore it is safe for human consumption. Our standard designs are usually sized from 1/2″ to 12″. With the engineered swivel joint having the possibility of being constructed up to 72″. The pressures that our swivels can withstand vary depending on the type. Standard swivel joints have the option to increase the number of ball bearings and the thickness of the walls to ensure they can withstand increased pressures.
