Wastewater Tank & Basin Floating Cover

The Wastewater Tank & Basin Floating Cover is a full contact floating tank cover engineered to seal tanks and basins, control emissions, and protect water and oil separator systems.

Size

Custom Width

Material

Aluminium (a5052), Glass-reinforced Plastic (grp)

Roof Type

Fixed, Floating

Available as fixed tank covers or full contact floating tank covers, this system is built in aluminium or GRP to suit different sites and budgets. Designed for water and oil separator covers, storage tanks and basins, it forms an unsinkable, vapour-tight barrier that limits odour, VOC emissions and contamination on UK treatment works.

Description
Emission and Contamination Control for Wastewater Tanks and Basins

Open tanks and basins cause most odour complaints, VOC emissions and product contamination on a wastewater site. The Wastewater Tank & Basin Floating Cover closes that gap. It seals the liquid surface completely and needs little maintenance over its working life.

We supply two configurations. A fixed tank cover gives you a static roof structure for tanks with stable liquid levels. A full contact floating tank cover rests directly on the liquid and rises and falls with it. Most sites choose full contact covers for water and oil separator covers (API separators), balance tanks and basins with variable levels. There’s no vapour space left for hydrocarbons or odorous compounds to collect.

Aluminium and GRP Construction

We build the cover in two materials to match your site conditions, chemical exposure and budget:

  • Aluminium tank covers: panels use A5052-grade aluminium sheet with an internal honeycomb core. Epoxy resin bonds the panel internally; polysulfide seals it externally. This gives you a rigid, corrosion-resistant panel that holds its shape under load, without the weight of steel.
  • GRP tank covers: glass-reinforced plastic panels resist aggressive chemical atmospheres. They deliver the same floating cover performance in a lighter, non-conductive material.

Both options carry ribbing for strength and resist UV and ozone degradation. Epoxy resin or stainless steel protects any metallic parts that contact the liquid. This matters for compliance on sites handling industrial effluent or oil-contaminated wastewater.

Full Contact Floating Cover Design

We build each floating cover from individual, bolted panel sections with a quick-connect installation system. Your team can fit covers to existing tanks without draining them or carrying out major civil works. Every panel compartment includes its own test port. Installers and site engineers can confirm each section is free of hydrocarbon vapour before commissioning, and isolate a single panel for inspection later without affecting the rest of the cover.

The floating sections stay effectively unsinkable, so the cover rides on the liquid surface rather than resting on internal supports. All panel connections stay vapour-tight and double-sealed. An earth continuity strap runs across panels to safely dissipate static charge — a key safety feature for sites storing flammable or hydrocarbon-bearing liquids.

The cover also takes foot traffic. The deck supports at least two people standing anywhere on the surface, whether it’s floating or resting on its internal supports. It won’t damage the panels, and the roof won’t settle into the product below.

Why Choose This Cover

UK wastewater operators use this cover to manage odour complaints, permit conditions and fugitive emissions. It avoids the downtime and cost of a full civil rebuild. The panel-based design lets you fit it to tanks already in service. Choose aluminium or GRP to match the chemistry of what’s in your tank.
