Home-start is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support, with an aim to see a society in which every local parent has the support needed to give their children the best possible start in life; because childhood can’t wait.

The years between birth and school are vital for a child’s development. Children who are raised in a stable, loving, family environment are more likely to have a positive future, with better job prospects, healthy relationships and improved mental and physical health.

But being a parent isn’t easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking, over-whelming and sometimes life can get in the way. Life-changing events can happen to anyone. That is why Home-Start is ready to support families through their toughest times. They support local families with children aged 9 and under, going through a wide range of difficulties. Here are just some of the issues they can help with:

– Mental Ill Health & Post Natal Depression
– Isolation
– Physical Disability and Illness
– When a Relationship Ends
– Twins, Triplets and Many Children
– Bereavement Improving their confidence and building better lives for their children.

The benefits of their support include improved health and wellbeing and better family relationships. Every Home-Start volunteer is trained to work alongside you to overcome the challenges in your family life.
Our local Royston, Buntingford & South Cambridgeshire region of Home-start will be hosting a very special event on 14th May 2022. The inaugural Strictly for Charity Spectacular. Our very own Mike Phillips will be taking part, dancing the Salsa with his Partner Serap Mert of Cambridge Salsa. Alongside eleven other “local celebrities” they will be stepping outside of their comfort zones bringing you all the glitz and glamour (not to mention sequins, spangles and fake tan) to compete for the glitter ball trophy but most importantly of all in aid of Home-Start and the local families they support in what is sure to be a fab-u-lous night!
