It’s been a long wait for some football fans. 18 months of sitting behind the TV and watching your favourite football team just isn’t the same. However, the Premier League finally returned this past weekend and it was also the homecoming for fans across the country. You could see the happiness on their faces as they walked up the steps to their seat to watch their beloved players and team. The atmosphere was rocking and it was a pleasure to see that once again. Football is nothing without the fans.
However since the start of the pandemic, fan loyalty and engagement has come into question, especially for the ‘Big 6’ in the Premier League. Due to the infamous super league that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City all agreed to join, this left large amounts of their fan bases disgruntled and ultimately broke the trust the clubs had built up with the fans for so many years.
Trying to build that trust and loyalty back up again will be very difficult for those clubs. This season we could see a big emphasis on fan engagement to start that rebuild. Building engagement is very important for us at EWFM which is why it is one of the main areas we focus on.
