Handling hazardous chemicals safely is a critical priority across the coatings industry. For one leading UK based paint manufacturer, an existing process for handling biocide was presenting both safety and efficiency challenges.
The Challenge
The customer’s existing method involved manually filling buckets with hazardous biocide directly from IBCs. This approach created several issues:
- Increased risk of operator exposure to hazardous substances
- Potential for spills during transfer
- Time-consuming and inconsistent handling process
- Difficulties maintaining a clean and controlled working environment
With safety standards and operational efficiency in mind, the customer required a more controlled and reliable transfer solution.
The Solution
EWFM supplied a fully integrated transfer system designed to improve both safety and usability during the unloading and handling of biocide.
The solution included:
- (10x) 1″ Manual Delivery Nozzles
- (10x) 1″ Swivel Joints (for nozzle-to-hose connection)
- (10x) 1.5″ Bore Composite Hoses
- (10x) 2″ Dry Disconnect Coupling – Tank Units (IBC side)
- (10x) 2″ Dry Disconnect Coupling – Hose Units
This system enables a sealed transfer process from the IBC to the final container.
Dry disconnect couplings are installed at both the IBC outlet and the hose assembly, ensuring a secure, leak-free connection. The composite hose and swivel joint combination provides flexibility and ease of handling, while the manual delivery nozzle allows for controlled dispensing into smaller containers.
The Result
The new system has transformed the customer’s biocide handling process, delivering a safer and more efficient operation.
Key benefits include:
- Reduced risk of spills and operator exposure
- Safer, cleaner product transfer
- Reliable, secure connections between transfer points
- Improved operational efficiency during unloading operations

Conclusion
By replacing a manual, open transfer method with a fully enclosed system, the customer has significantly improved both safety and control when handling hazardous biocide.
This project highlights how the right combination of transfer equipment can make a substantial impact on day-to-day operations, protecting both personnel and product while improving overall efficiency.
