Late last year, we faced an exciting challenge from a company providing Environment Solutions, who sought our expertise to create a custom loading system for Organics and Poly Aluminium Chloride.
Understanding and Crafting a Tailored Solution
Our first step involved a comprehensive review of their requirements. The client needed a system to fill various Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) from a single operation point without manual hose handling. The solution had to be user-friendly, as it would be used frequently.
After evaluating different loading arm designs, we concluded that our Long Reach Model 2385 was the best fit. This system required a reach of nearly 4 metres, imposing significant demands on the gantry structure. To address this, we included a pillow block to minimise the load on the customer’s piping and support infrastructure. Our design, featuring a long reach with dual booms and an intermediate swivel joint operating horizontally, offered an ideal combination of reach and flexibility. This configuration allowed the client to efficiently fill multiple IBCs within the 4-metre arc, optimising both productivity and convenience.
Seamless Operation and Enhanced Safety
Recognising that the system needed to be operated by a single person, we outfitted the loading arm with high-quality swivel joints for smooth movement across all axes. This ensured easy positioning over any IBC within the designated arc. Once positioned, the arm includes a lock-down device, allowing the operator to secure it and then return to the control panel to start the filling process effortlessly.
To further improve safety and prevent overfilling or incorrect positioning, we installed a final ball valve on the drop tube. This feature allows the operator to confirm that everything is set before starting the filling process, ensuring accurate and controlled operation.
Given the ATEX Zone 1 environment in which the system operates, we ensured compliance with rigorous safety standards, including proper earthing continuity throughout the structure.
